Our Featured Ordinary Hero
Carolyn Twietmeyer founded PROJECT HOPEFUL after her eyes were opened to the serious and outdated immigration procedures facing adoptive children of international (and especially HIV+) children. Carolyn's mission in life is to educate, enable, and encourage families to open their minds to the possibility of adoption by exposing the needs of children with HIV and other severe special needs abroad. Her burden for these children has been further fueled by her subsequent adoption of a child in the end stages of AIDS and the realization of the desperation and HOPE for children such as these. “It is our dream and vision that NO child affected by HIV is waiting for their forever home because of ignorance or lack of funding and to help to attend to the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs specific to these types of adoptions and children. “ The Twietmeyers currently have 11 children with two more joining them from Ethiopia soon. Four years ago a journey began that would ultimately change my life, and the life of my family.  This journey led us to countless children living in the Homeless Shelter here in Nashville,TN. It opened our eyes to a world right in our own backyard that we didn’t even know existed.  This journey moved our hearts and our hands to action. As we sought to make a difference in our community, our hearts were also pulled toward the needs of children across the globe. This pull resulted in us adopting our 6th child from Ethiopia in Aug of 2008. Out of this experience Ordinary Hero was born. Our hope is that Ordinary Hero will open your eyes to the incredible needs of children here and all over the world. Our hope is that you will be inspired and moved to action to make a difference in the life of a child. You can be an Ordinary Hero.  CLICK HERE to read the whole story.
